We got Jasper when he was 11 weeks old knowing that he was born totally deaf. It wasn't something that put us off; in reality he was more endearing to us because of his disability. For a few weeks all Jasper did was eat and sleep, he was so laid back he was practically comatosed! It was only when we started trying to walk him that it was apparent he was scared of everything and everyone outside of the house. He was a quivering wreck and would panic at the slightest sight of anything coming towards him.
Phil had already met Jasper and had put together a training plan specific to his needs however we were not prepared for this neurotic behaviour. With patience, Phil's help and guidance and lots of sight-seeing trips in the car to de-sensitise Jasper plus hours of sitting on park benches letting everyman and their dogs walk by us, we finally got Jasper walking through the park! Phil was always on hand to give advice, share the park bench with me and most importantly to me, let me know I was doing all the right things to help Jasper. It wasn't long before we were able to walk with him off lead, safe in the knowledge he wouldn't run off. What a relief, my dog could now enjoy walks and run and play like any other dog.
Our next challenge was adolescence; Jasper went from a neurotic wreck to a teenager in need of an ASBO! Enter Phil again with a whole host of dog training measures to save my sanity and my home from being destroyed. Jasper learned new ground rules very quickly and within a few short weeks became a happier, more obedient dog. We still have a long way to go yet but the future for Jasper and my family is looking very rosey. I look forward to my training sessions with Phil and I know that we can only go from strength to strength now.
